In this article I‘ll describe configuration of voltage transformer including configuration of ATS.
Basic principles of ATS have been described in article no. 23 „CAP505-Substation automation- Basic principles“. In this article I‘ll overview configuration and settings. How to insert variables, function blocks, how to create connections between function blocks, how to set parameters of function blocks read in articles no.3-20.

1. First you need to define analogues channels – voltages. Created project‘s object:

5. Set analogues channels and type of PLC:

6. Creating of configuration of measurements. The configuration of measurements should be created in program „Measure“.

7. The configuration of measurements is completed. Compile the configuration by using „Build project“ for the first time. By compiling second, third and so on use command „MAKE-MAKE“.

9. The configuration of position indication of voltage transformer truck:

U1=100V, U2=100V, U3=100V; φa=0˚, φb=240˚, φc=120˚.
Measurements on HMI of PLC REF543:

13. The configuration of ATS (Automatic transfer scheme):

14. We need to configure ATS signal „Voltage and frequency is OK in busbar 1“.

Example of the configuration:

Binary output BIO1_5_SO5 will be active when:
1) voltage will not drop bellow 0,6xUn
2) frequency will not drop bellow 49,5 Hz
3) dropping speed of frequency will not bigger than 0,2Hz/s

When all these conditions will be fulfilled, then binary output BIO1_5_SO5 will be active (indicating that in busbar 1 voltage and frequency is in normal condition).

Use the command „MAKE-MAKE“ to compile the configuration.

15. Configuration of UFLS (Under Frequency Load Shedding) by using „Relay Configuration tool“ application.

Example of the configuration:

The configuration of UFLS is redlined. The UFLS is used to disconnect synchronous motors. When drops frequency in network, the UFLS opened synchronous motors. Here „BS1“ is blocking signal 1. When BS1 is active (logical „1“), then output „Trip1“ of function block „Freq1St4“ is blocked.

Setting of frequency f= 48,5 Hz (parameter “Start frequency”)
Operate time t=0,5 s (parameter „Operate time 1“)

In our case we use output „Trip1“ of function block „Freq1St4“, so we need to set parameter „Operate time 1“. If we would to use output „Trip2“ of function block „Freq1St4“, so we would need to set parameter „Operate time 2“.

16. The configuration of residual overvoltage protection in 6 kV busbar, in isolated neutral network.

The example of configuration:

If one phase of working motor is grounded, then voltage transformer must confirm that. Only after confirming the motor will be disconnected from the network.

17. In industrial power networks busbar can be overloaded by working motors. In this case voltage of busbar will drop. To maintain normal voltage, motors are disconnected by undervoltage protection U< from the network.
The example of configuration:
